This blog carnival is a compilation of a lot of videos, blogs, reviews, and homages to classic and not-so-new video games. A lot of it have put small itty-bitty tears in my eyes from remembering when I use to play these games. If you want to add any media to this blog, be sure to comment and I will update it as quickly as possible:
Game Homages: For those who can simultaneously remember Short Circuit, The Never Ending Story, Ear Muffs, & New Kids. I might be more/less nerdy than the rest of you but you know where I am hinting at. DISCLAIMER: I did my best to not find the most popular video games, and I plan on continuing the carnival with bigger lists of games and how you can still get them. This is just an appetizer, so relax:
——– Nintendo Entertainment System ——–
100 NES Games in 10 Minutes: Bucky O’Hare & Gradius did me in ( Does anyone remember Bucky O’Hare?)
Also, this guy’s video has no title next to the 50 games he showcases. Can you name all of the games in his collection? I see TMNJ & Ninja Gaiden, but I probably have 20 of them I am still unsure of. This other guy has a top 10 of his NES classics, but for some odd reason leaves of Legend of Zelda. Hmmm… A big hmmm…
Some other games you might remember:
————–Sega Genesis ————–
100 Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive Games in 9 minutes. Streets of Rage & Kid Chameleon are Hands-down two other best games I’ve ever played.
- Also See : Top 15 Genesis Games ( really good picks, not the normal top 10 you usually see. Done by JCMDS45)
- Top 10 worst Genesis games ( made by the same youtuber as above)
Some Games that you may have forgotten:
- Aladdin
- Herzog Zwei ( probably the best strategic out there during that time. Influential on a lot of the strategy military games now. Still a bitch to play.
- Crackdown
- Revenge of Shinobi
- Road Rash – All I can remember is accidentally punching the biker girl who is suppose to be my ally and she gets all upset. I was such an angry young turk back then. Oh yea, and Biff. The asshole.
- Spiderman vs. The Kingpin
- Street Fighter 2 Turbo
- Streets of Rage
- Strider – For A player on Marvel vs. Capcom, probably the weirdest game I’ve played.
—- ———-Sega Master System ————-
Sega Master System Tribute ( over 50 games ). If you never had the Master system, you were missing out on some really good games.
- For Master System, Also look at “ The Ninja”
- Fantasy Zone 2
———– Arcade Homages ———–
Top 288 Arcade Games in under 9 minutes. Brought to you by Amiga2000
KungFuColin gives his take on his best games he has played in the arcade. More toward the mid-90’s, but a great list nonetheless. Final Fight, Metal Slug, Armored Warriors etc.
This video here is someone who showcases his top 100. A lot of them are in the 91-97 category, which is a little beyond me, but enjoy for those who experienced these games. He doesn’t list them but email him and maybe he’ll tell you.
Other Games to watch to bring back some beautiful memories:
- Pac-Land
- R-Type
- Arch Rivals ( Basketball Game )
- Double Dragon ( Mr90sGamer review. You are the man!)
- Marvel Vs. Capcom – I think I spent a paycheck on that game. Adjusted for inflation of the current dollar, that was like $10,000
- NHL Open Ice ( Very entertaining and loud. No one bothered to play it. Was that a sign of things to come for the sport’s popularity?)
- Robotron
- Samurai Showdown 2
- Tank Battalion
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Tempest
- WWF Superstars
- X-Men : Just the sound brings back some good ol’ memories
Here is a medley of retro Capcom Arcade Games. Anyone remember Darkstalkers?

Snow Brothers Video Game
———– Super Nintendo ———–
Top 100 SNES Games in 10 minutes. These top 100 in 10 have been brought to you by Laffer35 on Youtube.
Some memorable Games:
- Super Metroid ( Spoiler, end Boss )
- Super Bomberman
- Contra 3: The Alien Wars
- Final Fight 2
- Mega Man X
- Super Mario RPG - 2nd Best Mario Game of All-Time developed by Squaresoft. What a tandem! Oh, here is another video.
- Donkey Kong Country
* A funny video/music/song/rap medley for Super Mario RPG.
——- Sega Saturn ——-

Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Zelda, Mario and Donkey Kong) has alledgedly said if there was one game he wished he’d made it would have been Nights! Nights is only available on the Saturn.
I don’t have too much for Sega Saturn, but Nights for Saturn was probably one of the greatest games I’ve ever played, and I totally forgot about this one. ( This last vid a spoiler for the Final Boss, here is a normal review ).
——- Playstation ——-
- Top 10 Playstation Games Homage
- Another one
- And another top 10 – Try to check them all out: They all have different picks; there was so much variety with this system.
There isn’t a lot combo vidz that show a lot of Playstation games; here are some I use to play; I will add more as I find them:
- Einhander – Shoot ‘em up game that was amazing. Great almost arcade-smooth graphics and you can take the enemy’s weapons and blast them away with it. Gradius has nothing on this game. A lil’ too easy to beat.
- Gekido ( review )
- MegaMan X4: Truly cinematic. Great experience using Zero.
- Raycrisis
- Robotech: Battlecry ( Also one of the greatest old school anime shows if you ever get a chance to watch it.
- Robotron X
- Rival Schools
- Warhawk
Video Game Comedy & Tidbits:
* Last year, Comedy group POYKPAC made a spoof on Mario & Princess Peach living in the real world. Classic Youtube video; most likely you have seen this video already.
* The Go-Team came out with a video a couple years back re-enacting the Ms. Pac Man game as real life chase scene. It has a funny 70’s cop show feel; worth watching.
* PBS had a documentary on the history of video games ( The Video Game Revolution ). It celebrated 30 years of game-making, and had a lot of material with industry pioneers on their view on the past, present, & future of gaming and systems.
* Another Youtube comedy. Making fun of Wii Tennis combining the whole thing as a Geico commercial. Underrated.
* They don’t need much more advertising, but if you want to play classic games, Gametap is the place you would want to start ( unless you are already ROM-ing and getting it on your WII
* Photo Website Starpulse has a directory of a bunch of screenshots of video games over the years. Very huge collection.
* Youtuber Alianger has an assortment of videos tributing video games, game music and more on his page here.
* An article on the best Genesis Games of All-Time. Wow, he has Herzog Zwei as his favorite!
* VG Music is a website where people post up songs of zillions of video games over the years. Some people get the actual song from the game, others make their own with MIDI sounds or other quirky methods. Not to stereotype, but a decent amount of the games and game music that are on these videos and this website are heavily techno/house influenced. I’m not a huge techno/ electronica fan, so it usually comes as a surprise to hear it in a lot of these videos. But anyways, check out the site. My favorite soundtrack is Super Mario RPG. Classic, Classic Game.
* For those not aware, A “speed run” for a video game is where someone is trying to beat the game as fast as they can in order to show their skill in the game. They usually skip over secrets or decent items, and try to beat the game quickly. These are usually posted all over Youtube.
I will end this mini-carnival with a great video to homage video games from 1972 to 2007. Next, we will showcase Wii, The other Playstations, Some more comedy, some commercials, games, and online reviewers and critics of the games before the 21st century.
Also, we won’t leave out some goody old-school nostalgic items such as the Neo-Geo, Turbo Graphix 16, Star Fox, The Atari, the Jaguar 64, The Nintendo 32X scope, Final Fantasy, ROMs & MAME, and maybe even Morgan Webb just to pad on some searches ( *shrug*). RSS or Digg us; we will be back for more:)
